We have been on friendly terms with Jesolo for many years. But due to the long port entrance that was only allowed to drive in tow, the interest has decreased somewhat. Free sailing from the port to the Adriatic Sea is now permitted!
When our Italian friends came to the state championship in Velden Wörthersee, we also decided to go to Jesolo again. This year the regatta has been postponed due to the pandemic. However, the Trofeo Bianchi Albrici regatta in Dervio, Lake Como, took place as planned on August 1st and 2nd, 2020.
Having agreed with Alexander (Sadilek, CZE 4), we went there. Over the Flüelapass, past St. Moritz, past the Silvaplana Lake, where we both went to the Euro 25 years ago, he with the Moth, at that time I had grown fond of the laser. The journey was very adventurous, serpentines and narrow roads let the time go by.
But when we arrived happily in Dervio, we were warmly welcomed. Got a parking space directly in the port area, which was very convenient for the Alexander. He got an easily accessible berth in the water, which I also benefited from.
Right in the first races, the waves and the wind gave us real problems. Antonio Squizzato was the real favorite, but the tough sailing here was interesting. With the help of his trainer, who kept the starting line clear, both made an early start, which could not be cancelled due to the lack of races. Alex and I fought a bit.
The provision of packed lunches on the water was necessary. On land there was a multi-course menu in the neighboring village with lots of wine to drop you off.
Left home completely satisfied, Alexander said we’ll go back next year. Meanwhile, Cristina from Jesolo has reported that she wants to support the Challenge Cup. Which means for 2021 to visit both Jesolo and Dervio if the regattas are within two weeks.
